Green Tips and Tricks

If your place is starting to smell musty, we have a great tip to bring back the freshness quality to your home. On a warm and sunny day, simply gather all your drapes, throw rugs, and comforters and hang them outside. If any of the items are especially musty, simply sprinkle them with baking soda before hanging them up. Then, let the sun and the wind work their magic!

After a few hours, shake off the baking soda and your items are ready! For any rugs, simply vacuum the baking soda off.

Word of advice, we don’t recommend doing this on a humid day, as the humidity may have the opposite effect!

Make Cleaning Simple!

Who says that spring cleaning has to be overly complicated? To get rid of a musty smell, all that is needed is a bit of baking soda, sunlight, and wind!

Celebrating Thanksgiving Richmond

Starting a Turkey Bowl in Richmond

If you are asking yourself the question, so what day is Thanksgiving Day 2019? If so, chances are you have a lot on your plate! From grocery lists, dessert menus, to organizing the invite list, we know this can be a little stressful! Thankfully, we have you covered on all things football! We have a great Thanksgiving Day Turkey Bowl idea near your chic Richmond apartments!

History of American Football on Thanksgiving

Football and Thanksgiving go hand-in-hand. Thanksgiving Day would not be complete without football! The first official game between two Ivy League schools was in 1876. Since then, playing football during Thanksgiving has caught on! Many families across the US participate in this tradition, and it is a time where loved ones can come together. Every year, families bring their A-game and unite bright and early for a friendly game of football.

Local Big Games

We know there are many football games to watch on Thanksgiving. But why not have a game of your own? This year, 6th Annual Dino Ghilotti Motta Thanksgivin’ Turkey Bowl will be held the morning after Thanksgiving Day. The Turkey Bowl will be held at Marin Catholic High School promptly at 9:00 am! This is a Turkey Bowl for a great cause, as proceeds will go to Marin Catholic High School scholarships. The event will also help raise funds to improve the arts and athletic facilities in the North Bay campus of the University of Miami!

Start a Turkey Bowl family tradition

If you are not a part of a Turkey Bowl tradition, we encourage you to let 2019 be the year you start! It is a great way to bring your family together, and establish fond memories. A great suggestion is to incorporate your own wacky tradition into the mix. You can create your own Turkey Bowl family trophy, the more ribbons and outlandish, the better!

Aren’t these great reasons to start your own Thanksgiving Turkey Bowl? Let us know if you’ll be having one this year!

Celebrate Halloween in Your Richmond Apartments

For kids, Halloween is all about trick-or-treating and getting candy! As adults, we tend to make this holiday a social one by going to parties or haunted houses. The “trick” is finding something near your Richmond apartments so you don’t have to drive too far (or at all) to have a truly memorable night.

Here are some things you can do to have fun this Halloween in or near Richmond:

1. Go to a local Halloween event that you’ll find on this site. You might find more than one party/event going on if you do your research. Make sure you get your tickets early, as they may sell out!
2. Check out your Facebook community page to see if anyone is hosting a haunted house, especially if you have kids.
3. Go to your local party supply store and stock up on some Halloween decorations and candy to throw a fun get-together in your Richmond apartments. If you’re set on doing this, be sure to play a free Halloween soundtrack you can find on YouTube, have everyone wear costumes, and serve candy. Consider looking up some Halloween-related games online.

So whether you decide to check out Eventbrite to see what events are going on near your Richmond apartments or you decide to throw a little shindig of your own, be sure to get planning at least a week before Halloween this year! If you don’t celebrate the holiday, consider watching intriguing documentaries from your Richmond apartments to at least revel in the spirit of the spooky and mysterious.

Enjoy New Fragrances in Your Richmond Apartments

People in general tend to underestimate the power of smells around them when it comes to their mood. They focus on visually aesthetic things and forget that smell can actually be a powerful influence when it comes to one’s sense of well-being. That’s why I’m encouraging you that as summer transitions into fall, you invest in some nice fresh flowers to your apartments in Richmond to indulge yourself in the possibility of a better mood.

There is quite a bit of different flowers that you could go with, but the most easily attainable and sought-after ones are listed below. Perhaps you can find them at a nearby farmer’s market in Richmond. Here they are:

1. Gardenia
2. Lavender
3. Scented Geraniums
4. Indoor Citrus
5. Orchids

Depending on what effect you’re trying to provoke is what should ultimately make you choose the flower/fragrance. If you want a more calming environment because you’re prone to anxiety, get some lavender. If you want something more stimulating, then go with a more citrus plant/flower. You’ll be amazed at the effects the smell of these flowers will have on you as they waft through the air.

Also, it’s kind of nice to indulge yourself to a pretty sight like flowers- I mean, when was the last time you bought flowers from yourself? Every time you walk past them you’re going to remember that purchasing them was an act of self-love and an attempt to make your life in your Richmond apartments better. What’s better than that?
So do your research as the seasons transition and hit up your local farmer’s market to stock up on some flowers. Who knows, maybe this mini-investment will be the start of a whole new lifestyle attracting love and positivity for you. Make the most out of what Richmond has to offer!

Go Green in Your Richmond Apartments

Do you see yourself as perhaps changing the world? Do you consider yourself a champion of change? If so, consider going green in your Richmond apartments. It may seem like a big effort to change the environment, but it’s actually a lot easier than it seems. You just have to be savvy and cognizant of what you’re using and doing in your apartment. The good thing about going green in your Richmond apartments is that you get to save money on utilities as well. Read some of the tips below to find out more.
1. Try your best not to make so much trash. This means to use real dishware instead of paper and plastic plates, forks, and spoons. It means being cognizant of how much toilet paper and tissue paper you go through every day. It means using dishtowels you can rewash instead of paper towels to keep the house clean.
2. Another fun way to go green is to get some small pots and begin to grow your own herbs, seasoning, and veggies in your house. This is relatively easy- something you can simply do some research on online or in-person at Home Depot or Lowe’s for you to have these things ready on demand to reduce gas by driving to the store. It’s also just fun and promotes healthy eating.
3. Use less water if possible, even if you cut your shower time by two minutes.
4. Be mindful of how much electricity you use.

Summer Cooking in Richmond

Lisa Simpson once said, “you don’t make friends with salad,” and we couldn’t disagree more. Summer is salad season. Before you say yuck and disregard this blog post forever, salads have more to offer than most would think. When you think salad, do you think of a bag full of half-wilted greens? You shouldn’t, when done right, salads are robust and full of flavor. They can elevate a meal into the taste stratosphere. You’re also very lucky you live in Richmond. Califonia produce shines during the summer months. We’re sharing a simple and fun way to do some summer cooking in Richmond.

It’s true that some of California’s largest exports are fruits, vegetables, and nuts. We can’t help but brag on the food that comes from our state, and you should too. Especially when you can find the freshest produce at a local farmer’s market. Next Friday, take a stroll down to the Certified Richmond Farmer’s Market and see what you can find. During this time of year, you want to keep an eye out for arugula, carrots, beets, watercress, spinach, radishes, and kale. Don’t forget the classic California avocado. One of our favorite publications, Country Living, shares 30 of their favorite summer salad recipes. We’re sure you’ll find one that’ll be a hit.

Don’t fear, bring a hearty salad to your next cookout. If you use the fresh produce we outlined in this post, everyone will be coming back for salad seconds. You don’t hear that often, do you?
